Open Education without the Profit
These Will Always Be Free
We are an Open Content Library and will remain so. We are committed to having high-quality materials created by faculty and used in courses available for free for anyone to use. As has long been one of our mantras: FREE THE TEXTBOOK!
Although there is a limit to the number of Customized Textbooks an institution can publish, LibreNet Consortium Membership is low-cost and allows for unlimited custom textbooks and access to other training, support, and marketing materials!
Textbook access is Free
Instructor access to ADAPT is Free
Publishing a General-Use Textbook is Free
Authoring H5P Materials is Free
Authoring ADAPT Questions is Free
Up to 5 custom textbooks from an institution is Free
The Goal is to be Free. The Fact is: we are Non-Profit.
We started as a textbook repository for faculty to publish wiki-style textbooks for use in any classroom and have expanded with the goal of providing every faculty member the option of having a fully-functional custom replacement for a for-profit publisher textbook in their course. Our evolution includes more costly features to maintain such as homework systems, custom textbooks, and ancillary materials. Still, the goal is to be as close to free as possible and we actively keep our team small and engage in grant-writing and advocacy with institutions to keep costs at an absolute minimum. Some have argued too small! We may be a small team, but our 15+ years in the leadership of the OER Community means we are a helping build a huge community of engaged faculty, staff, and students who go on to become faculty and staff themselves!
